A Face

have you ever just sat and looked into a mirror
have you ever just sat and looked at a reflection,
A reflection of your own, yet one you will never see,
who you are, never seen by your own eyes, yet a face that is with you forever,
A face that you know so well, yet is unknown?

Have you ever sat there, and run your fingers over your face,
Over every line, every wrinkle, every mark,
Have you ever sat there and looked in the mirror,

and felt repulsed at your reflection, hatred and loathing,
sickened at your own existence,

Every line a reminder,
Every mark a reminder,
Every crease a reminder,

Running fingers over a face that has been with me for years,
Yet is a face that is so unknown, and so hated,

Resentment at its pure existence,
How can people look at this face and say OK,
How can people acknowledge this skin,

Skin that has no right to fold and fit to a form,
Nothing that makes sense and has no right,

Have you ever sat there, looked into a mirror,
Looked at a reflection, that is so known, yet so strange,
A face that lives with you for ever,
Yet a face that is hated,

How do you go through life with this?
How do you deal with this emotion,
A emotion so confusing, yet so clear?
I have no idea who I am any more,
I just know pain and anger,
A result of no knowing the face I see , a result of confusion,

How can you look in a mirror
And understand the face before you

  1. Apparently every person’s face tells a story, they don’t say however whether the story is actually known to the person.
